Rescued - 30 Tons In One Haul

In a predicament complete…..8½ tons on his 5 ton lorry, sunk almost to differential in soft earth, front axle resting on ground …this driver scarce could have been more hopelessly placed on the 1 in 4 grade between Leura and Katoomba. (100 miles west of Sydney)
A steam roller failed to help. Then another heavy lorry and the roller combined were unsuccessful.
Finally, a Brockway 4 tonner carrying 7½ tons, effected unaided rescue on first attempt. In reverse, at the lowest of it’s nine speeds, it lifted out the lorry with ease – actually ploughing a foot deep furrow for a space of 20 feet with the latter’s near side, locked front wheel.
A total pull of 30 tons agreed the transport men standing by. (reliable witnesses confirm the report)
