YouTube has long been known as an internet website with lots of entertaining short videos, but it has also become home to a number of Brockway Truck related videos. These videos range from highlights of various truck shows, parades, and even dashboard views of 'shifting through the gears'. After each official annual event, members of the Message Board patiently await for other members to post their videos of the trucks entering Main Street waiting to be parked. Some watch it since they were unable to attend the show, and others watch it to get a glimpse -- or to hear -- their own trucks pulling in. No matter the reason, all the videos are enjoyable!
The finger lakes, located in central upstate New York, is an area which surrounds 11 glacial lakes. Commonly known their vineyards, the finger lakes region is a popular vacation area. Life in the Fingerlakes is quarterly magazine that promotes the region and focuses on local events and happenings. In 2001, Life in the Fingerlakes started an annual photography contest and this past year featured their 8th Annual contest.
The Grand Prize Winning submission for 2009 was a picture taken during the 10th Annual Brockway Truck Show. The picture was taken in front of the Brockway Museum and features three Brockways with the (tractor museum) in the back ground.
The Brockway Museum Board of Directors would like to thank the Covington Fire Company for the gracious donation of their 1973 Model 527 ladder truck. This truck is one of the first donations the museum has received and the truck was presented at the 10th Annual Brockway Truck Show this past August.
Up until the summer of 2009, Covington not only had one but two Brockway’s in service. In 1971, the fire company was in the process of restoring a 1966 Model 257 to be used as a tanker. The restoration was three quarters complete when a fire broke out in the fire house and destroyed the truck. To replace the damaged Brockway, Covington ordered a new 361 and fitted it with the tank that was originally intended for the 257. Shortly thereafter, Covington decided to order a 527 and this is where the story gets interesting.
This Brockway carriage was donated to the museum by Richard Duksa. The buggy was purchased by Rich's grandparents and was used as their going to church and shopping transportation. Joseph and Francis established Oak Bluff farm in Southington, Conn. The farm is still in the Duksa family. A road reconstruction project required the removal of the barn in which the buggy had been stored in for many years. Rich was looking for a new home for the family carriage where it could be preserved and appreciated for years to come. Rich discovered the Brockway Museum project through the web site.
The closest model in the 1900 wholesale catalog seems to be the Concord model #345 which is listed at $55.00.We believe that this buggy is a little older, perhaps mid 1890's. Although a little rough around the edges the carriage is complete and we think it will make a good example of an "as found" Brockway buggy.
Well it's hard to believe but our 10th Annual Brockway Show has come and gone! These shows take almost a full year to plan and without everyone's help and participation it would not be the huge success that it was. This year we had 105 pre-registered trucks with an additional 30 trucks registering at the door, for a grand total of 135, our highest number to date!!! As usual main street was full of a number of familiar trucks as well as number of fresh trucks. Walking down Main Street with Brockway's lined on both sides was like waking up on Christmas morning!!!
The weekend kicked off with a Barbecue dinner held at the museum on Friday night, followed by the auction and then finished off with fire works. Early Saturday morning trucks we lining up at the museum preparing for the parade and by 8:30 the parade was underway. During the show, entertainment was provided by "Diamond Someday Blueglass Band" followed by the award ceremony at 3:30.
We have just received word that a Brockway is being donated to the museum. The truck will be featured at the Friday night auction and proceeds from it's sale will be donated to the museum. The truck is a 1947 146W-30-34393 and has the 40B flathead Continental 6 cylinder engine with a 5 speed Fuller transmission and a 2 speed Eaton rear. The truck is fitted with a winch and a boom and has an interesting parascope located in the roof.
The truck was originally located in Connellsville, PA and spent it's life working at a rigging company. Currently the truck has under 60,000 miles on it and is in very good condition.
We are pleased to announce that the Diamond Someday Bluegrass Band will be giving a special evening performance during the Chicken Barbeque at the Brockway Museum on Saturday, August 8. They will be on stage at 6:30pm.
It's hard to believe, but it was 10 years ago that we had the first annual Brockway Truck Show! So you'll want to mark your calendar to attend the 10th Annual National Brockway Truck Show. If you have any interest in Brockway's at all, and can only attend one show, this is the one. You will not be disappointed!
The 10th Annual Show will be held on August 8 and 9 this year. This year we made a few changes, so please check out the updated schedule below:
The show kicks off with a pre-show barbeque fundraiser which will be held on Friday night from 5 - 8 right at the Museum. This is a good chance have a great meal and check out the progress on the Museum. Please keep in mind the barbeque is prepay. All proceeds go to the Brockway National Museum Fund. John Potter Jr. ate 12 pancakes during the Pancake Eating Contest held at the 39th Annual Maple Festival in Marathon on Saturday, March 28.
John raised $3,256 for the Children's Room in the Brockway section of the Central New York Living History Center. That averages out to $271.00 per pancake. Darn good pancakes !!
