What have I done ??

Postby Watchmaker » Sun Jun 08, 2014 7:27 am

Took a trip last Friday to Harrisville N.Y. and brought home a new project. This will be my first Brockway. Have it in the garage and am currently taking it apart for resto. I hope to be able to pick some of your brains for help...this board has been a very valuable tool and has ignited a fire in me to try it...don't know if I should love it or curse it lol

Looks like a great project! Can you share the model/serial number with us? We can figure out what year it is....

Good luck and enjoy restoring the Brock, you may find this truck sparks an interest to purchase others to help complete the project! Soon you may have a bunch of them! Enjoy, and have fun Paul

It is a 1950 148W it used to be a fire truck in its day. The plate reads 148w-12 ser 42346 and an American lafrance reg # b 1904. Continental b6427 five speed I have all the sheet metal, hood, doors, chrome grill shroud, brush guard, all the glass with frames ,push out windshield,I am missing corner glass but frames are ok. Motor turns ,orig. radiator. Thanks all for encouragement . It is a process just figuring out disassembly procedures and methods of restoration.

Nice truck Watchmaker. I have a 1950 148W, # 42478. I seem to recall that truck. Maybe it had aluminum wheel on front, but it sure looks familiar. Best of luck with it. Steve

Something I found interesting while disassembling the running boards. Apparently when the chassis was made, the stock running boards were installed and then shipped to American LaFrance for the fire truck body to be installed. LaFrance must of just added their running boards over the top of Brockways originals...all were very rusted and need to be replaced. Attached pics show the boards as found and then with the upper one removed.

Watchmaker....How did the screws come out of the wood??? Most of mine came right out.
A few of them, I had to grind the heads down and slot them with a cutting wheel so I could get a better bite on them.

Looking good though.

Great to see you've got some good young help as well!! :D
