Here is a pic I found of what I believe is a mid to late 30's Brockway Sunoco tanker truck. This picture is from a postcard that was advertised for sale on eBay. Really a great pic of a great truck!

Great Pic!

Seeing Homer, NY on the door, it wasn't far from the factory.

Plenty of chrome. That was a high end truck for it's time. I'll bet that one was the pride of the owners fleet!

Interesting -- radiator shell not typical of this era, nor are the side panels of the engine hood with three vents ?

Good observations George. This truck is very interesting from a styling evolution standpoint. This radiator shell was used only in the mid thirties. It gives a glimpse of the shape of things to come, as do the horizontal hood louvers. It was 1935 when Brockway began to sell the "new" Pirumoff designed cab and sheet metal used in one form or another through the late fifties. Pirumoff did an excellent job of developing existing design features into his new models. Most of Brockway's designs followed this same path, generally updating things rather than starting over from scratch as larger manufacturers would do. This truck's cab also gives a hint of future styling, particularly with the curve at the bottom of the windshield. This type of headlight pedestals were used until the early forties, but the nameplates on the hood had been around in one form or another since the twenties. I would guess this truck was a 1933-1935 model.

The discussion about the truck's appearance is very interesting and I can't add a thing to it. However, I note that the name on the truck's door and the building is the same and there's a fuel pump and oil fill bottles out front. This leads me to believe that the picture was taken at a service station and I can say, They surely don't build them like this anymore!"
