Thanks for the warm welcome. What kind of wood was used in the cabs I have heard of apple but I dont know if that is right. I already have white oak, white pine, yellow pine, poplar and some yellow locust sawed and in the dry for several years.Sawmill lumber is not a problem for me.I am just not a craftsman when it comes to wood. Metal and mechanical is all that I know about. Thanks for your time.Aaron Tipton Burnsville NC 828 284 0145

Aaron,

Welcome aboard!
I too, have two wood cab trucks. I just got all my wood pieces made. It took some time, but I got them from Robinson's wood shop in Cortland N.Y.

As Glen indicated, Emery has had a fair amount of experience with these cabs and has some pieces cut out.

Tomorrow I will take some photos of what i had made and post them here.

Thanks guys. I would like to try to come to the show in Lincolnton. I am not in a big hurry the truck has been sitting for at least 35 years and it can wait a while longer. I just want to begin rounding up parts. Because when I get started I cannot quit.

Aaron, Welcome!! We need more Brockways in Dixie!! I live in Charlotte and spent last weekend in Beech Mountain. Where, exactly, are you located here in Western North Carolina????
Brocky is near Spartanburg SC, and Glen is in Floyd VA near Hillsville. Stretch is in Central NY state but can pop mup at unexpected times (not un-announced though)I spend a good bit of time in the mountains and would love to see your truck. I'm in the slow process of restoring my 1949 260XW. It's apart now and the wood is terribly rotted so I'm "repopping" the wood and should be able to help you with patterns etc. Original species is White Ash native to Central NY but some of the guys use White Oak as it's so similar and who's gonna know. The thicker stock isn't always easy to find so We should get together with Glen for the harvest!!

Aaron, I even have some "extra" wood cabs some in my possession , others I've never laid eyes on . We'd all like to see some pictures of your project truck. Can you post model and serial numbers for us as well?

Emery

Welcome to the board!!

Are you going to make Cortland this year, August 10&11th?? If not any you need some parts brought back either Emery or I can probably help you.

As well there are ATHS chapter shows in Lincolnton/Maiden NC on Sept 8th and Cherokee NC on October 12 & 13th. I will be at both and be looking forward to meeting you.

Good Morning guys finally got a chance to check back. I am waitng to get loaded in charlotte nc and their not in a hurry but they never are when you get paid buy the mile. I in Burnsville NC that is about 35 miles northeast of Asheville. I hope to get to come to the show at Lincolnton NC but can make no promises. Just got a new haul this week pulling containers out of Charleston and hope it is going to work out good. I am normally around my shop about any time but was short a driver. If you guys are ever close feel free to call and I be sure to be there. I can get white oak logs sawn here. That is what I use flooring my lowboy trailers. So if that would help anyone I will certainly try. Have you fellows come across anyone who would work on the cabs of these trucks yet? As I said before I am not a carpenter. The truck that I want to restore is number 260XW 55 34465 the parts truck is 260XW 55 39044 I will try to upload some pictures but may have to wait till I get home and get my wife to help me! Thanks Aaron

If you miss Cortland I will be looking for you at Lincolnton. I am 6'4", 250, glasses and my normal "show uniform" is a grey Brockway polo shirt and red Diamond T ball cap.

I can't find my files right off, so I can't remember my 260XW serial number but will find it and post it. Tom or someone will chime in pretty soon and verify the year of your truck. Mine's a 1949 and not in as good shape as yours looks to be.

Aaron,
Your dad's truck is a 1947, and the parts truck is a 1948.

At Linclonton you can find some 18 wheel spectator parking on top of the hill where the transporters park if you are late getting out of the port on Friday afternoon.

Good evening everyone. Back at home this week working in a feldspar mine. My drivers off vacation and I feel like I can get something done. I dont know if I will try to fix both. I think I will just fix my Dads and then have some parts to help someone else. I am already trying to get things in line to go to Courtland. I work every day with my dad and I think I have got him convinced for us to go to both shows. You should see th grin on his face when he talks about some of the loads he use to on the old girl. If any of you guys that are close feel free to give me a call and come by I would be glad to show you our antique tractors. But if you cant just keep me in mind on the wood. Also the metal strip that runs around the back of the cab where the top attaches is anyone reproducing that strip mine is in bad shape and I am afraid mine will just fall apart when I try to remove it.
