Most of you know how cramped a 300 series cab is, and probably thought that the only option for air conditioning would have been a rooftop unit. Well, I decided to see what could be done. Believe me, having a black truck parked in the sun on Main St. is a good motivator. After having located a universal under-dash unit http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-A-C-U ... 860wt_1048 I decided to tackle the condenser unit at the radiator. I searched E-bay again and found a single tube core that will fit BEHIND the grill http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Universal-A ... 3066wt_814 Below are the simple modifications I did to mount the core. Currently working on a mount for the compressor then it is just a matter of hooking up hoses and charging the system. Stay tuned for more pictures as I get the compressor mounted. I also have to find a spot to mount the receiver/dryer unit.

Stan,
we have a 361 with under dash a/c. I believe the guy we got it from took most of the components off a ford torino. I will get you some pics and email him for details if you want?

Thanks Brian, but this project is just about fully engineered in my head. Just need to hook everything up now. Does your AC still work?

Here's a couple more pictures. This weekend's project was to fabricate and install a bracket to mount the Sanden 504 style AC compressor. A 12" piece of 4 x 4 x 1/2 angle iron was section to create a mount that bolts the the accessory pad on my Cummins. More to follow soon.

Tom - The AC is going on "Blackie". The only Kysor system I have is still on the 360. What have you got in mind?

Well, here's the last update. AC system is fully functional on the 361, and at 15,000 BTU's , I can make the inside of Blackie a chilly 59 degrees! Attached are a few more pictures, the reciever/dryer and electrical relay mountings, as well as the under dash unit. I plan on having the hood open on Main St. and will be glad to share part numbers and suppliers with you.

Clutch fan to reduce noise and cruise control. Seriously! Cruise control can be accomplished by a stand alone system and a speed sensor off the drive shaft. Sears used to sell kits years ago for cars. I'm going to build one!

Very Kuhl Stan!! I well remember the cruise control unit you mentioned. They worked fine and at a fraction of the cost for factory units. 59 degrees is indeed cool!! You may now take me for a ride! (As log as that new knee allows brake actuation, I don't want that surprise again)

Emery - the ride may have to wait, knee surgery is scheduled for 7/24. I hope to make the show, but will be on crutches. The truck will be there ahead of time, and left in Cortland until I recover.
