Emery, the main reason for the disassembly is that the right side windsheild post is rotten and broken. The next step I am working on is trying to get the steering column out. I can't get the steering wheel off the shaft,and I also tried unbolting the shaft at the steering box. No luck yet.
I live just 30 miles northeast of Cortland.
I have been down to Stanley N.C three times this past winter for business.
I may be back down the week before Memorial day.
If I ever have the time, I have your email saved and will give you a heads up when heading down that way again.
I'd like to check out your truck if I can work it out.

Any help on the steering wheel and shaft?

Hi Stretch...

The steering column and shaft do not come apart. In other words
, the shaftnis integral to the box. You have to remove the steering box from the frame and remove it from below.

Stretch, I have duplicated my front cab posts and have yet to assemble so if you need a pattern I can help. Try to get your overall post height from your original just to be sure. It will sure be nice to have fresh lumber to screw your door hinges to.

How about just pulling the steering wheel?

I took the nut off the center and tried driving on it from underneath with a air hammer.
There are no puller holes in the center ring.
The wheel is pretty beat anyway,but it's all I got.....for now, unless someone knows of a better Ross worm drive steering wheel or repro that my be available.
One guy at our shop suggested putting the nut back on most of the way and wrapping it with a hammer while driving up on it.

As for the shaft and box, I knew things were going wayyyy to good.
That was info that is very good....but not really, you know what I mean. You always wonder how they did it when assembling the truck to begin with.

Here is a simple tool I built for pulling steering wheels. I've used it several times on my Brockways with no problems. It slips behind the steering wheel and pulls it from behind. Here are a few pics.







I know we talked about this before here on the message board, but the search function doesn't work well looking for older posts. I see what I can dig up.

Stretch, Put the nut back on just slightly proud of flush to keep from peening over the shaft as you strike it. Meantime put some good penetrating oil on the shaft. I prefer Sea Foam but whatever you have that foams and works. Then see if Tom will loan you his puller for the price of shipping!! (It can't hurt to ask!).
I've puzzled over how to deal with this steering box myself. I've considered completing the cab and lowering it over the shaft or building the cab around it. I don't have a fork lift or equipment to hoist the cab. When I removed it we tilted the cab backwards and off the column but won't want to treat the finished cab that way. It's difficult to hang a block and tackle in the big sky garage as I have no center beam. Still have to clean up, sand blast and paint the cowl, so I'm a ways off yet.

Thanks for sending photos of the puller. Yeah...I can make something like that. Nice use for old head bolts.

Emery as you can see I have the same issue. In the garage that I have I don't have the clearance to lift it off. That's why I wanted to remove the column.
Oh well, I'll just have to roll it back out and lift it with my "Cat...super delicate precision lift"
I was hoping just to do all the work right on the frame, but if your gonna do it...DO IT BIG!

Glen, it's really you guys that keep me going. I've been a "lurker" on the site since I got my trucks. Seeing Tom, Stan, GG2, Tony, Richie and all the rest of the folks out there really keep my energy high when I am out there. Plus like you, with my 361 dump..I just like to fire it up drive it up and down our roads and through the fields just because I can't stand not too!
When I get to plowing my front fields this year, there will be no more going around the rocks.
I will dig them up and haul them out with the 361. I will post pics when the time comes.

I know it has been a awhile since I updated on my truck. It has been quite a busy summer to say the least.
But, with a renewed spirit I find myself driving forward to get this truck stripped down, so that I can finally start the rebuilding process.
So, in the past two weeks I have managed to follow the advise of some good folks that I have visited and took what they told me and put it to use.

Holy Mackerel Batman!! My whole cowl is off the truck and it isn't that clean!! Not a wire in site! Nice work Stretch!!

Alright ..so it's been a while since I have done anything to my 152WD.

Yesterday I got the garage warmed up with the kerosene heater and started stripping down the frame some more.

I got all the fuel tank cross brackets, copper airlines and wiring pulled out.
Drove out the rivets that held the side rienforcement plates on (that was a treat)
Scrapped the grease/sand of what ever I could and got the fuel tank drained.

Here is my question. As I had mentioned earlier, I was having trouble getting the steering wheel off. I did get it off but not before ruining the wheel itself and I think I popped something in the gear box. Now I need to pull it completely off.
So, if I dont want to pull the engine to gain more room, what is the proper procedue for removal???
