Removing the dump box this past weekend was a little hairy...

Stretch, Thanks for the update. Is that excavator precise enough to install a 3000+ pound engine in a newly painted chassis? I'm still looking for something to use.

The excavator is more than capable of being precise, if the rams don't drift badly, but you need a good operator also. Stan

All you need is an old Oak Tree and a set of chain falls!!! Should be plenty of them in your "Open Air" garage!!

The 12 X 12 beam over my barn door and a bigger come along will work.

The bucket on my 620 John Deere picked the 555 Cummins and 613 tranny that Stan sold me off the trlr and took it into the barn OK until I hit some soft gravel with the tricycle front end.

Want me to load it on the trlr and bring it up some weekend??? Ribeye steaks and Yuengling beer!!!

The right front fender was the worst. A "reliable source" told me to invest in a "Bigger" hammer, as replacement or good ones are hard to find. After a hour or two of beating and shaping, a few more hours with the MIG welder..filling small holes, I still will need a little body fill to smooth things off.
Then is to Tractor Supply for paint!

Nice job Stretch!!! Like we say here in the Big Sky Garage, "If it don't go, get a bigger hammer". There always seems to be rust on the right fender where that sheet metal bracket is welded on. With an adequate hammer, you can usually even remove creases and with a torch you can shrink the metal where needed.

Been working all weekend on get the garage cleaned out so I can roll my C&C in. The heat and light out in the "Big Sky" garage is getting worst every day. If all goes well by Wednesday I can post more progress pictures ( or some insurance claims photos  ).

I also have striped more of the sheet metal off.... running boards and gas tank shrouds. Having new ones made.

No way to compare with Mr . Millards Magic Garage, but I figure I should send some updates in as well.
Last left off with getting the garage cleaned out just before it started snowing so I could get the cab and chassis in. Unforunately didn't get alot of time to spend on the truck since getting it inside. I have managed a few things though.
Past couple of weeks I removed the doors and peeled the skins off. Beat out a few dents and prepared to fill in all the "bullet hole" from guys that went drill happy, not realizing that the doors are only skins with no real substance behind them.
Took the wooden door frames down to my older brother who does wood working.
My only wood working is with a chain saw!
Striped the dump hoist system off and took it all apart as it was leaking all over the floor . Have to get packings and the roller system on the hoist wil no doubt take some creative welding. All the bushings and rollers are shot.
Removed the front windsheild and wipers assembles.
Then with some encourgement from Emery, I just got the roof and right door post part today.

What I did fail to get photos of, was all of the seat cushion stuffing was moved all to the rrof panels over the doors. Also there must have been a gallon of beech nut hulls in the head liner as well. I had to empty the shop vac twice. What a mess and.....stink :? .

Hopefully back at it tomorrow!!

Beech Nut hulls were a "flotation" addition in case of ditching!! Looks great and door frames look pretty solid. How were your windshield posts?? They seem to be the cornerstone of the cab and hard to get out without total disassembly. They constitute the largest chunk of white ash in the cab.
Now you are inspiring me!! When I removed the door skins, the rotten framework came out easily but when reassembling around new frames, I had to straighten out the lip around the window than re hammer it into position which concerned me. Couldn't find a way to assemble wood frame inside of door skin because of the carriage bolts used in the original. Turned out well though and we painted skins after assembly. Be sure to seal any new woodwork really well with spar varnish or some such, especially end grain, Not that the old gal will ever be kept outdoors again, but you never know.
Where do you live Stretch? Keep up the good work.

Emery
