Eaton 2 Speed Wanted - 5.43

I have talked about this a number of times in the past but I wanted to throw it out here one more time...

My 155W currently has an Eaton 2 speed rear , model 20503, with 6.71 / 9.13 gears. From what I understand, they made (3) gear sets for that rear, 5.43 / 6.39, 6.14 / 8.36 and 6.71 / 9.13. I was able to locate a complete rear with 5.43's that came out of a H257 with a 180 Cummins. Both pumpkins have the same casting numbers, etc. After taking it apart I found out the pinions is damaged.

So I am in need of another set of 5.43 gears. I did find both a new and used set in Ohio but you could buy several parts trucks for that much money. Before I go down that road, I wanted to check here first...

Here are the details...

28656 Casting Number
16 spline axles
1 1/4" pinion nut
1 3/4" major spline dimension on pinion
41962 Ring Gear
48820 Pinion Gear (I believe...)

5.43's are made up of a 7 tooth pinion and 38 tooth ring gear. These numbers are stamped on the head of the pinion but sometimes hard to read. There is also a large pipe plug (either hex of 1/2" square) on the pumpkin, next to the fill plug. Right above this the ratio will be stamped.

Thanks Paul, I checked with both Heavy Duty Parts on Race Street and Truck Parts on Washburn Street with no luck.

The ring and pinion set number has been superseded twice. First it was 41970, then 48817 and now it's 98685. I may have located a used ring and pinion in NJ, I'll keep you posted...

tom, have you tried Demo's truck parts in bergen ny, up by Dane's. old pat is a wealth of info on that old stuff. 585 494 1341 sometimes pat can be alittle difficult to deal with but its worth a try.

I called Demo's a few years back with no luck, but I called Pat today with more info (ring and pinion numbers, etc) and he was helpful. He did find a 6.14 set but not 5.43's... He is still looking.
