My 250 tilt is pretty well cooked I think .I have been offered a 335 reasonabley priced What would I need to change to mount this engine .It maybe cheaper than fixing my 250.

You can use the tilt bell housing from your old motor. Brockway "straightened" the motor to vertical using spacers under the right hand mount and a longer bolt. The ears bolted to the bell are a little longer also. When you go from 250 to a turbocharged motor, the engine must stand upright to gain clearance for the turbo against the right hand hood. This is the same conversion I did on Blackie.

Ok, so now I have a question; I thought the reason the engines were tilted was because they wouldn't fit as well as they would standing straight up. If you can stand them up with no problem, why where they put in tilted?

Brockway stub nose has to have the engine tilted to gain clearance for steering shaft and throttle linkage on drivers side. I believe that Brockway ordered all Cummins with "tilt" bellhousing and then installed as needed, straight or tilted. Long nose has room and some naturals are straight up.

I guess thats why Mack moved the cab on the U & DM models so that the engine could sit straight between the frame rails?? make sense, if they didn't move the cab over the dog house would be under there feet

Thanks Stan we had a short discussion about this at the show .the info is much more important now. When we talked I was only satisfying my curiosity. The 335 belongs to a fellow club member so that option is looking more attactive all the time. The 250 has water lots and lots of it in the oil,(looked like gray paint) plus a chunk of metal in the oil pan that I felt with my finger.I figure it has pretty serious problems. :(

I have a grate of various motor mounts etc. and I will be at Ballston Spa next weekend if you are close. I have a 361 frame with mounts in it and could probably sell them. Stan knows the frame and he can tell you if they will work.

Way back when I worked for Mack in Allentown. An engineer named Ben Waiter (he was also an amateur magician) was responsible for the U and DM model "Command Cabs." They were offset so the short (90 inch bumper to back of cab) models could have both an upright engine and room for the driver's legs and foot controls. Ben always worried that someone in Australia might order one with right hand drive!
