SAE Bellhousing Question

Did Brockway typically use SAE #2 bellhousings or did they use SAE #1 on some of the larger or maybe later motors?

I remember a while back Paul Polcha upgraded the 671 in his 761 and had to revise the motor mounts since the original bell was an SAE #2 and the new motor (out of a later truck) was SAE #1 (I believe...)

The engine flywheel housing and transmission bell-housing size are largely determined by the clutch type and size. Most everything had a 14" clutch back then, with the larger 15" clutch being spec'd for heavy duty. As the engine grew in HP, the 15" clutch became more popular as did the bigger bell-housing.

Bigger hp. Is that when the engine sat upright in frame.

Engine lays over for clearance for the drivers foot. Cummins air intake on the heads would make the foot well on the drivers side equal to that of the passenger if the engine was upright in a snub-nose low cab 358. With the engine laid over there was no room for a turbocharger so it limited engine HP in the low cab. The 359 solved this problem. Interestingly, Brockway ordered all the Cummins engines with the 15 degree lay over housing and then raised the passenger side motor mount with a riser block to level the engine in the later 361 and 700 series.

So the riser block was the difference. I have a 74 361 with sc 290 that sits upright. I have not pulled it apart to see difference.
