The first two photos of Colprovia 7321 were taken by the Godfather as he took possession of it from O&G. The H 360 had a blown engine and was being used as a parts truck, you can see the fifth wheel was missing along with mirriors, stack and worst of all, the windshield which later caused extensive damage to the inside of the cab.

It changed hands twice, going south to LI and then to the north country, and finally to familiar territory, the route 22 corridor where it worked most of it's life, purchased by the Whalens.

It eventually got stored inside, but the cab interior had already suffered damage from no windshield. The engine, transmission and radiator were removed and being in a section called the warehouse, it soon became a shelf for a few years, and once appeared in a digital X mas card.

At about this time in 2013, Bob moved on an 1693 Cat engine from an Autocar wrecker that was being parted out. It was a 325 which he later turned into a 425.

Operation Fasttrack was born, and Colprovia 7321 then came out of hibernation, and the fun began....

The dismantling began....

Getting the Power Steering Box off was tough and took about two days, just as I thought Bob was going to give up, the arm under pressure popped off. It got boxed up and sent to Sheppard for rebuilding.

Meanwhile in the Engine Dept, the three and a quarter underwent light sandblasting and recieved a coat of primer.

Image

For the Brockway application the oil sump has to be at the rear, so the old pan and the pickup tubes were removed and the correct ones installed.

While in this deep, the bearings were checked...

With everything OK the correct oil pan was installed.

Everything topside was checked for proper adjustment, 325 intake removed to make way for the aftercooler, first* rear main seal installed, then flywheel and clutch.

The aftercooler now makes it a 425......

Just a little housekeeping here, in the previous post I wrote that "the aftercooler now makes it a 425", well the fact checkers in the main office suggested that the combination of the Aftercooler, the Garrett T-18 Turbo and Rack Settings make it a Four and a Quarter. Some storys I heard from old timers say that additional rack sttings will make it a "Sheldon Five and a Quarter", named after a Mechanic from the local Cat dealer.

The following takes place during December 2013:

After a hot 2013 summer of scraping grease, pulling out insulation and drilling out broken bolts and rivits, Little Dave prepares to do battle with the sandblaster on years of rust inside the cab and engine compartment. The tractor was last used in 1993, fortunately 7321 was preserved in Imron paint when painted by O&G in 1988, and was rarly used in the winter during its working life.

Followed by primer and paint...

Soon after the 1693TA returned from the paint shop....

We are now almost into early February 2014, 7321 is in the main shop, heat is good, Bob and Russell are sorting out wires using diagrams and testers. Now the dashboard gets put back in.

Image

Image

Image

Hooking a battery pack into the system they know that they have lights.....as 7321 gets repositioned, making way for one of the work trucks to get motor work.

Image

Meanwhile Brother Jim starts tearing down the rears for inspection, brakes, seals, etc.

Image

With the heater in, the Dynamating starts, also a aircraft grade insulation along with Dynamat is used on the firewall, and I can attest to how quiet 7321 is inside, you can drive with the windows open and not have to shout to the other person.

Image

Image

The origional Air Viking got cleaned up with a repair to the back cushon and eventually a different seat cushon was added, and all the origional upholstery cleaned up and was reused, the pouch on the driver door was beyond repair and replaced.

A few photos to add that may have gotten out of sequense by a couple of days, maxi's changed, new diaphrams, automatic slack adjusters cleaned & inspected, etc.

Image

Brockway gauges replaced the Mack gauges ......

Image

The date on the air filter reads 04-06-93, service and maybe the little engine work that caused the 1693 to burn a piston shortly after.

Image

And the day from hell......when the windshield got installed.

Image

......and after the mess was cleaned up.

Dropping the motor in........ Used the overhead crane on the rear, and an engine hoist on the front. After Bob removed the front engine stand, 7321 was rolled forward to the engine.

Image

Image

Big Dave above and Russell under the cab guide the motor into the mounts, tolerances were so close that a single flat washer on the engine mount made things tuff......
When the engine was in final position with front mounts pinned, tractor then had to be jacked up by the front axle for the rear mounts to meet.

Image

Success!

Engine only lowered the front end by 3/4 inch......

We are now up to early March 2014, and from a recent shopping spree at "Other Dog's", where surplus parts were obtained, Brother Jim converts this aquired floor pan to work for the H-360. After matching up with the old pan, the correct place for the stick shift hole was cut out and the old hole plugged shut.

Image

Image

The finished product with Dynamat, and later with the Brockway floor mat....

Still more fabricating going on in another area, here Little Dave rebuilds the inner fenders of the permanent steel fenders. The fiberglass fenders used at the Big Show and afterwards are/were temporary.

Thanks to Paul P, the origional sad looking fan shroud was reproduced, and rusted out battery boxes rebuilt by one of his connections.

Seized up shutters eventually were freed up on the massive radiator.
