Looking for information

Postby Huskiedrive361 » Sat Oct 04, 2014 8:22 pm

I am looking for information on the 27B Continental flathead 6 cylinder that was used in Brockways of the late '20's and '30's. Can anyone tell me the cubic inch displacement? and the Continental Motors model number? For example a 49B (Brockway model ID) is a R6602 Continental. I am also looking for any Brockway literature for the Model 75 truck. Thanks! Stan

Stan-
Is Mack Boring still in business in New Jersey? At one time they were a leading Continental distributor and were good at supplying information and advise. I'm thinking a long way back, though!

I once had a very interesting conversation about the Continental 16C engine with Sandy Olson of Olson's Gaskets. He has some excellent cross reference books dating back to the teens, as well as many years of experience in the old vehicle gasket business. He told me of several other manufacturers that used the same 16C (248 cid) engine, but for various reasons the engine was identified differently. You can imagine that Federal might not want to be known as using the same engine as Brockway, so Continental called the same engine a 17B , or whatever for Federal. in another instance a change in accessories might bear yet another ID of the same engine. You get the idea. Anyway, if you need gaskets, give Olson's a try:

Thanks Steve. Do you know of any other designations for the 27B besides the 16C ?

Stan,
The Continental 16C is what is in the 1931 BrockwaY Hearse. My contact, Andy, at Universal Auto Parts is a Continental dealer. When my 16C launched he was able to find the parts. The head was a 22 bolt configuration. Give him a call at 518 465 3471

Sorry Stan, I don't recall any other designations for the 16C. I would suggest a call to Sandy Olson, he might have the information you need. I spoke to him at a truck show a few years ago, and he seemed very willing to share information.
