Brockway Pic of the Week 11-25-13

Postby oldspwr » Mon Nov 25, 2013 12:43 pm

Here is a pic of a 761 that I found over on FB this morning... It was posted by Jon Reding and he is trying to locate this truck...

Here is the back story to it...

"I'm trying to locate a truck my uncle used to own. If it can be purchased reasonably, I night try to own it. Here are the details: Looking for 1976 Brockway single axle dump. 230 hp cummins, 7 speed, fiberglass fenders, dual KW headlights, round Mack fuel tanks ( Brock's were square), Mack mirrors, Dark red with silver stripes. Last seen in Hamburg, NY east of McKinley on Newton, Rd. Want to find and restore."

On a side note, it seems like things are changing and there is much more interest in sharing Brockway information on FB than on the message board...

I hope not. My wife is on there...... I've been trying to avoid getting a FB account.

I like it here!

I hope that is not the case Tom, I am also trying to avoid the Facebook thing! Paul. Was the 761 an old Midland Asfault truck?

I'm not sure, but I don't think this is a 761, hood looks a bit short.... I believe it is a 776......
but whatever the case,m best of luck in your search.. might take some time, but it can happen- took me 25 years to find a particular truck.. don't give up hope!

I think you are right now that you say that. could be an old DOT truck.

it is a 776 and was a dot truck. John Reding is trying to locate the new owner. I think he said that it was last seen around 2006 at gernatt sand and gravel in Sardinia ny.

It's a sharp looking truck, I like 776's. Regarding Facebook; I think the website here is for more of the die hards. The guys who work on the trucks, come to the show, have at least a few in the back yard, whereas facebook is more of the people who vaguely remember the trucks around. Or their father drove one, or they remember the company across the street having one. At least that's what I kind of see.

The Facebook pages are guys just sharing photo's of trucks. No sharing technical issues,or any help in restoration. There is no substitute for this forum. The Brockway Preservation Society has a Facebook page and sees very little traffic. If you have or want a Brockway or have a need for technical info this is the place to be...accept NO SUBSTITUTIONS!!!

I agree on the facebook deal. The nice part about facebook is that I have friends that share the photo and it moves around quick. That is my uncle's old truck. It was a NYS DOT truck that he repainted and used in his construction company from 88-95. Then it was owned by Gernatt's Gravel in Collins, NY. They sold it to someone near Yorkshire, NY I believe, and I don't know from there. My uncle said he saw the truck a while back parked behind a house in Hamburg, NY, so I'm going to take a ride this weekend and see if it's still there. For all I know it's beat to a pulp, but it would be neat to find it and save it if it's not too far gone.

Facebook is a good "marketing" tool for us, as it gets widespread coverage/exposure and may bring more enthusiasts onto the board. However it will never replace our board as we all share more than a curiosity or passing interest in Brockway. So post your Brockway pictures on FB as often as you can but this is where the rubber meets the road!

Emery

Happy Thanksgiving one and all!! We have much to be thankful for.
