Blizzard Talk

Postby Brockway POWER » Thu Feb 07, 2013 1:13 pm

With a blizzard bearing down on the New England states the local media has decided to revisit the blizzard of '78. Browsing through the random photos resulted in this shot of stranded Brockway.

White's Garage in Waltham MA had it's two Brockways, along with the rest of the fleet (and everything they could borrow), running non-stop for more than a week after that storm. They had a 361 and 761, both with Holmes 750's on them. Both were factory built as wreckers and delivered from the Boston branch.

BTW, one model here is calling for 34.8" in Boston through Sunday 8AM

I remember the blizzard of 78. I flew into Boston on the first plane to land. A C-130. Snow drifted over the wings of planes stuck at the gates. We flew back to NH in 2 hueys up I-93 at 500 feet. The only thing moving were snow machines and cross country skiers. What a site. This time I safe at home! Beer stock is good (for me), wine stock is good (for wife), new cutting edge on and ready. If you can believe the weather guessers we will get 40 inches. We'll see. Update on Sat or Sun. Bring it on!

This the caption that goes with that picture.

Roy Sodersjerna of Higham, Mass. suns himself on the hood of his car which is stuck in snow on Massachusetts Route 128 in Dedham, Mass. in this Feb. 9, 1978 file photo. Sodersjerna, who waits for plows and tow trucks to dig him out, has been living at a Red Cross shelter nearby since being trapped in the storm three days earlier.
