Dobbins Auto Parts - Adams NY

Postby Brockway POWER » Fri Nov 09, 2012 10:51 pm

It was brought to my attention last week that a pretty amazing scrap yard can be found in Adams, NY. As you can see from the photos below they still have some old NYS DOT Brockways and at least one other that I cant identify. I called them a few days to see if they allow people to wander around their yard but the guy on the phone seemed pretty confused. He said he believes he still has three Brockways left, thought they were 457 (?) models. I'll probably just roll the dice and drive up there one weekend.

As of two weeks ago the trucks you see below still existed.

They still use this truck for their daily operations.

Plenty of Autocars, Whites, Macks, Walters and Internationals to around as well. Plus cars if you like that kind of thing. I've been told they are actively scrapping what they have.

Credit for these photos belong to Steve Sands. He graciously allowed me to post them here for all to enjoy. They originally appeared on the facebook group "In the Weeds"

The saying should be you "would love to go up there" Adams new york is quite a ways up north. Back when my father had the 776 that Dan Shiefer has now, a guy came up to me at the Long Branch truck show in Liverpool NY and said he lived in Adams NY and had a bunch of these trucks. I never did go up to meet with the guy and im guessing thats him.

i went there today. and looked at the remains of the trucks. the pictures on this post make the trucks look beautiful. from what little i know about brockways, they are strictly parts trucks only. they have been moved from the locations in the pictures also. they are very heavily damaged, rusted, rotted, neglected. there is not a straight piece on any of them. all double rotted frames, and springs that have grown double the size from sitting. all the fiberglass fenders are either missing as shown or ripped the torn beyond repair. believe me when i tell you, it was a very sad site to see. BUT at the same time, i met Gordon Dobbin's. he is a very nice guy who is having an auction to cut down a bit with what he has. he gave me no indication that the trucks were getting scrapped or getting auctioned off. he is not liquidating everything, just cars and car parts, and buses and buses and buses. wow does he have alot of buses. but to end this on a positive note, he is a huge brockway lover and plans to keep his 776 tow truck along with the other 776's just for parts. he would like to sell the 200 because he thinks its got potencial to be restored. so any of you that were on the fence to go to the spring fling or his auction, that should make up your mind now.
