Restoring Colprovia 7222 (H360TL)

Colprovia Corp had a Brockway fleet at their Dover and Bedford NY locations, consisting of both tri-axles and tractors. The first photo is a 1969 Detroit powered 361, and the second is a 1972 H360TL with the 1693 Cat. Between 1972 and 1974, maybe 1975, there were 7 H360TL's purchased at Colprovia, 6 of them still exist today in various shapes.

At some point O&G Industries of CT. purchsed Colprovia, and the paint changed from blue to gold. As the photo date shows, they were still in service in late 1996, and eventually parked and sold. Photos are from the Whalen Collection.

Fast forward to today. Colprovia 7222 is being restored by the Whalen Family, to be ready for the 2012 ATHS National Show in Springfield MA.

The cab is off, with attention going to the floor, cab corners, cab back and roof. In the first photo the 1693 Cat is seen in the backround, and is to be rebuilt by Bob Whalen Sr. In the tradition of big HP Cats pulling dumps up and down route 22, one of Whalen's 600 HP Catterpillar powered Petes is in the backround of young Bob working on the cab. In the last pic, Bob Sr and young Bob discuss perfection...

The cab has now been primed, and in the last photo the cab back has been installed. In the backround is the "Showroom Fresh" 361 viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2122&hilit=showroom+fresh

Here's a couple photos of the frame before winter dumped a mountain of snow. Young Bob will sandblast it when he gets caught up on the cab.

Does anyone know, or have seen Colonial Sand & Stone's V12 360 Brockway's 1974-75 we had 6 of them. You could tell right away if it was a Colonial tractor by the air cleaner that they would put on all of there equipment even there tug boats had them, they were big Donaldson units. The last time I seen one was in Nappi Colonial's yard back in 1988,does anyone know of any out there?? I'm still lookin for a old Colonial mixer for a project resto.

To answer the first question. I do know that two of the original Colonial Sand and Stone's original twelves still exist. The blue U360 that Clarence Ritchie owns is one and the second is owned by someone here in the Hudson Valley. That truck is now painted maroon and was at Cortland a few years ago. I also know where there is a Colonial Autocar dump locally. The seventh Colprovia 360 was rolled over. Some of the parts were used to build a Autocar glider in the early 80's.

I know Bob Jr. is a regular at Cortland but I don't know if I met his Dad there.

GG2,

I'm not an engineer here, but I'd say that because the H360 and the U360 model hood and engine compartment is 10 or 11 inches longer to compensate for the bigger engines, is the reason for frame ext.

Fantastic work!!!
Keep the photos coming. Great to see the old working photos that really bring the history forward . Seeing the past revived and the love of "quality" trucks preserved.

I always talk to folks that I know about....Do you think any of this present day, plastic ladened, over electronic crap will still be around in forty plus years?...I don't think so!

Again Great work!... to all preserving these Brockways.

Progress has been slow because attention was needed on work trucks (Peterbilts, I know, don't say it).

New 359 fenders had to be converted to fit the H360, and the doors were reskined. Parts to rebuild the 1693 Cat are on hand and the frame is coming apart to be sand blasted.

And I even got Bob Whalen Jr to pose next to his work...
