WELL BEEN DOING SOME MORE TO ( BIG BAD JOHN ) TRUCKS NEW NAME, IN MEMORY OF MY FATHER INLAW. GOT THE DASH APART AND ADDED THE TRAILER VALVE AND SPIKE. WENT TO THE LOCAL SCRAP YARD TODAY AND GUTTED A MARMON CAB FOR ALL THE VALVES AND SWITCHES,BREAKERS,AND GAUGES. BROUGHT LOTS OF GOOD STUFF BACK TODAY. ALSO LOOKED AT THE MARMON TRUCK FOR TRANNY (13 SPEED) AND A 1990 VOLVO FOR THE REARS, MAYBE FRIDAY WE WILL GO OVER AND CUT THE FRAME AND BRING THEM HOME. THE REARS ARE ROCKWELLS WITH A RATIO OF 4.88 SO IT WILL MOVE THE WORLD BUT WONT BE A GOOD TRUCK TO RUN THE THRUWAY.

4.88's with double overdrive (if you can find a RTOO -9513) will give you 72 mph at around 1900 rpm. That's what I had in my 361. Nice setup, but you need to balance the driveshaft because it's turning quite fast. Stan

MY LOCAL CUMMINS GUY IS COMING OVER SAT. MORNING TO DIAL INDICATED BELL HOUSING AND INSTALL NEW DOWL PINS, ITS GOOD WHEN SOMEONE OWES YOU A FAVOR. GOT ALL THE PLUMBING DONE FOR THE TRAILER AND SOON WILL DROP THE AIR AND FUEL TANKS SO THEY CAN BE CLEANED AND PAINTED. ONCE THE TRANNY IS ON ENGINE I WILL PAINT IT THE CUMMINS COLOR AND PAINT THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME RAILS AND THEN INSTALL ENGINE AND TRANNY BACK INTO FRAME.

yesterday my cummins guru came over and dial indicated the bell housing. that was fun. we have the housing within 2 thousands. the only thing i had to do was oblong on hole by the cam cause it was bout 1/8" off, just installed the housing , dowled it then took a carbide cutter in my die grinder and ground it out. he seemed to think the reason was cause of using a small cam housing on a big cam engine. i cant believe the wiring on this truck is in such good shape. only one wire for the lights has been replaced to the terminal block.

PULLED MY HAIR OUT TODAY CHASING A ELECTRICAL SHORT, FINALLY FOUND THE BUZZER FOR LOW AIR WAS SHORTED. I ASKED MY VERY DEAR WIFE TO COPY THE PDF ON TO A DISC AND WE DID TAKE THE PDF FILE TO OFFICE MAX TO HAVE THEM BLOW IT UP AND LAMINATE IT.
ITS ONLY 24"X36" BUT VERY EASY TO READ. 45 DOLLARS TO COPY AND LAMINATE.

WELL WENT CHRISTMAS SHOPPING. WE GOT THE TRANNY OUT OF THE MARMON, WHAT A JOB. UNBOLTED IT AND HOOKED A STRAP TO THE BACK AND IT ONLY MOVE BOUT 1.5 INCHES AND WOULDNT GO ANY MORE. KEPT TUGGING WITH THE EXCAVATOR AND SHAKING THE CHAIN AND FINALLY IT FELL OUT. THE SHAFT HAD NEVER BEEN LUBED. THE FOR SALE SIGN WAS IN THE WINDOW STILL SO I CALLED THE EX OWNER AND ASKED BOUT THE TRUCK, HE SAID THE ENGINE HAD A KNOCK BUT TRANNY WAS INSTALLED 2 YEARS AGO. HIS LOSS MY GAIN. ALSO CUT THE REARS OUT OF THE VOLVO. BROUGHT THEM HOME AND ARE NOW IN A HEATED SHOP SO I CAN REMOVE THE OLD RAILS. CALLED PITTSBURG POWER YESTERDAY AND TALKED TO THEM BOUT UPPING THE HORSE POWER, THEY HAVE A KIT THAT REDOES THE PUMP AND 2 SIZES BIGGER INJECTORS WITH DUAL FUEL LINES FOR 1700$ , GIVES 100 MORE HORSE. WHEN SANTA BRINGS MONEY FOR CHRISTMAS I WILL DO THAT.

MADE A LITTLE MORE PROGRESS TODAY. WE PULLED THE TRUCK OUT TODAY AND TURNED IT ROUND AND PUSHED IT BACK IN. CUT THE UBOLTS TO THE REAR AND LIFTED THE FRAME. CUT BOLTS ON AUX TRANNY AND CLEANED ALL JUNK OFF FRAME.NEXT WE WILL ROLL NEW REARS UNDER TRUCK FOR ALIGNMENT AND HEIGHT. FEELS GOOD TO LOOK AT TRUCK FROM A DIFFERENT VIEW.
