Re: 81 Chevy Stepside Pickup - Round 3

Great write up Tom! I look forward to your posts on your progress. Word of advice, the fiberglass (plastic) of the AC box will have absorbed some of the mouse urine. Thoroughly steam clean the box with scalding hot water and bleach or use the box from your dad's original cab. When the heater is on, ...

Re: 3 line brake chambers

Well Frank, I'm sorry. In 43 years of messing with these trucks I've never heard of a 3 line brake chamber. You mentioned applying the service brake to assist in releasing the park brake. That would require a service air line which as we know is one of the two lines on current production chambers. I...

Re: 81 Chevy Steside Pickup - Round 3

Great story Tom! And it's a testimony to your family's love of that truck. Lots of memories for you I'm sure. Your dad's first customization with the roof markers, visor, and running boards screams "professional truck driver" to me. It could have been easily found in the parking lot of any...

Re: had to bring it home

I haven't driven mine on the road yet, just around a friends driveway. It seems ok and tracks well. The bushings may be ok - I hope! I'm guessing there are parts on somebody's shelf somewhere, but finding them might be a problem. If it becomes a big issue, I'll swap in some other suspension.

Re: N257 Doors

Which would be mid 1973 and older. If you decide to use the push button style door handle, the cab door post must be changed as well. Try Dane Baldwin at 585-233-3682 for doors.

Re: had to bring it home

Down to one and some pieces now. Had 5 at one time about 12 years ago. Over all I think I've had 9 different Brocks. All hobby trucks.

Re: Another working pic

Nice picture. Scenes like this were common in the 60's and 70's all over the northeast. It was a testament to the popularity of Brockway then, and now almost 50 years later, if you know where to look, you might see the very same type of Brockway still working. Durable? an understatement for sure!
