Re: Green Cabover headed north on I-81

Dave and Paul-----Rootin' through some of my Detroit engineering stuff ,I found that the specific engine model for Brockway was 7127-7508 ,whereby Paul's new engine is 7127-7502 which was built for Diamond Reo . Scanning the options, they skip over key items like the flywheel housing and don't start ...

Re: Green Cabover headed north on I-81

Brian---Me too ! I hope Paul is more liberal than a truck puller our company helped in the early '80s . After we switched his transmission to an Allison HT 750 CR,installed a Spicer 1241 auxilliary ,and replaced 12 cylinder kits, he roadtested around the Akron area .When he turned around to head bac...

Re: Green Cabover headed north on I-81

Mike-----That was just an old homemade gimmick...........get a logo patch off a uniform, naturally with some oil stains on it , glue it to your Amish straw hat and you can have one also ! I used to have fun doing instant dog and pony shows when I was a Deeeeeeeeeeeeeetroit peddler . That picture was ...

Re: 1980 GMC General fresh off the bench...

Turbo------You may be aware that on the ATHS discussion forum there's a guy named Robert Manley of Florida that posts as "Crackerbox Bob" . He has a growing fleet of the real Generals and Bisons, including a rare one I found for him in Mansfield,Ohio that had a 60" sleeper and a 60 se...

Re: Identity Problem--- HELP!!!!!

Steve-----Art Van Aken of Gilboa has assembled a number of books out of copies of manufacturers literature from back in the day ,along with trade journal articles about the various models . I happen to have his Diamond T book that I got at the Hudson Mohawk show in 2010 . Art can be reached at 518-8...

Re: Green Cabover headed north on I-81

I have to agree with Dave that it would be sweet to at least seeing it a Cortland as a rolling chassis, cab or no cab . After all,I showed my Detroit powered pickup at the Piston Power show in cleveland last Sept./Oct. as a work in process with no front clip plus 75% of work still undone, and it got a...

Re: Green Cabover headed north on I-81

Friday AM I got to see the truck as pictured in one piece more or less ! Never saw a truck with dual Lubrefiners before ,so that was a first . The Neway arms surprised me ,but made it a class act in it's day . Still puzzled how Paul ever got it up his cowpath driveway ,as my Dodge pickup couldn't ge...

Re: 13spd. Tranny oil

Dane-----Straight mineral gear oil is somewhat similar ,but won't have the sulphur smell that rear axle gear oil has . And the 90 wt.gear oil is a similar viscosity to 50 wt. engine oil . Your sales rep sounds greedy to tell you his current oil is not backward compatable with what you already have ....

Re: Southbound 81 to Cortland

Well, you know mufflers are for old folks............and they work ! Sometimes you have to re-engineer the factory setup as you now appreciate peace and quiet ,instead of the loud straight pipes . You would appreciate Dave Mueller's modification on his V-12 powered tractor where he added two 4" ...

Re: H360LL

Brockway Rescue, April 23, 2010 By Dan Renovetz Shortly after the first of the year, I began hearing from a younger ATHS acquaintance in New York about a Brockway in Michigan that needed to be rescued. I first met this New York man, Dave Mueller, at a fuel stop in Salamanca, New York while returning...

Re: Had a minor heart attack yesterday...

Although you should check both sides for freeness if it's sat for a long time, vice grip on one side is adequate .Unscrew you secondary filter ,pour off some original diesel, and put some Howes fuel treatment ,or any popular brand or ATF back full . More likely condensation ,than varnish if you had it...

Re: Front Axle King Pin Question

30-35 years ago the nylon bushings were thought to be a easier substitute , but in real world experience ,potential rust on pins from the elements causing the spindles to bind up they fell out of favor . I know I wouldn't try to use nylon again ,partly because the metal bushings have been resized sl...

Re: Put a V-12 Detroit in a 359 today

Husk-------Haven't learned all the handles yet . Governor changeover could be had from parts you may already have..............if you have a V-6,V-8,truck engine or V16 from a haul truck in the quarry . Might be some minor stuff like different spring tension in the governor ,but basic parts should w...

Re: H360LL

Brian----Would I have to find some "Lot Lizards" on the Thruway for the re-enactment ? Sure looks like Thruway maintenance colors . I remember hitchhiking on the Thruway at Saugerties trying to get a lift back to Ft. Dix before bed check in 1954 . In fact ,my first lift was in a Dairylea B...

Re: H360LL

It was innocent, considering a dirty old man was asking , but Dave's wife thought I had ulterior motives and was corrupting her man ! So I guess I was on an ego trip ! She'll probably not let Dave take me on anymore rescues . But I better let it go because ! I still want to be welcome at their house !

Re: Brockway Pic of the Week 3-5-12

Looks like a silage body on that farm truck and that's a application for automatics that farmers love . In the 70s I had a call from a farmer in Iowa or Kansas where he wanted to regear his F 700 Ford . That way ,his wife could drive the grain truck to the elevator and save the union wage when they ...
