Re: Lou Kroack's "estate" sale (Table Top Trucker)Owner Operator

Another great talent lost! I proudly have a Kroak built model of my "Black Mariah" MH 9500 GMC, given to me a few years ago by the NEO chapter. Used it in a family picture in church directory, they thought kids and older members would bring toys and golf clubs. Ha !

Re: 2 500's in Vernon

About 1975 Allison held a "Ride and Drive" in the hills of Nashville , Indiana, south of Indianapolis . My company flew me out to attend and participate, then drive a similar truck back to Cleveland for delivery to a local small garbage fleet . Red and all chromed out, 6-71 with Allison HT...

Re: question

Another type of drive reference you might have heard of was the "torque Tube' drive ,where the drive shaft,[usually a solid bar], was encased in a tube fastened direct to the differential , and took the torque load off the springs . Seen on Ford and Chivvy trucks up through ton and a half up in...

Re: Competition for the title of the world's toughest truck

Well, I guess there is a difference between tough and rugged............But as George Murphey says.................When we see what we want to see, and hear what we want to hear.............Too often we miss the point ! Both brands were good, [speaking of Diamond Reo] .

Re: FOR SALE 1970 Custom Built Brockway Pick-up Truck

I met Brud and the Husky Pup about the same time I met Doug Fetterly...........at the Pocono Raceway for Big Rigs in 1983 . Brud had it in the drag race lineup. I later visited him at his "new" place in Fonda a few years later. I agree it was more of an attraction then. Why did it ever get...

Competition for the title of the world's toughest truck

About everybody knows about the Overdrive article where they coined the title of "The World'S Toughest Truck" ! I was a little surprised when rummaging through a drawer of dealer promotional stuff that I found a digital wrist watch that advertised the Giant [by Osterland] that also has tha...

Re: husky with a runny nose

GMC used that remote style pressure valve in the '50s . My model 350 with 248 cube engine for 1953 had that setup . Never found out who the supplier might have been, although Harrison Radiator was a division . A radiator shop should be able to get them .

Re: PTO Wetline kit F/S

As a caution, weren't PTO gear pitch changes made 10-15 years ago ? Possibly for noise reduction. Not saying anybody couldn't change the drive gear to match pitch on older transmissions .

Re: Rockwell rears ID.

I think any double reduction gear set will stand more input torque. It used to be the standard spec for City of Cleveland , but we got it changed as with an Allison you don't get the shock loads on the drive line . To comply with the spec, International salesman just put in the Eaton 2 speed locked ...
